A ****in no brainer---Edgar Prado just seems to shine like a bright star in the sky!

Edgar is the best jockey in the land.If you don't think so, then watch him ride a race or 2.

What Edgar accomplished 5 years ago, leaving Maryland, a second-tier circuit and making an immediate impact on the N.Y. circuit, was one of the more underappreciated feats in racing.
This guy was among the leaders at the Spa in his FIRST NY seasons....right there with Bailey, Velasquez, Day and Chavez.

Ask guys like Mark Guidry, Patrick Husbands and Robbie Albarado how tough it is to come to Saratoga and win. Joe Bravo dominated the NJ circuit and headed out west to try California. I believe he lasted a year. Even accomplished jockeys like Mike Smith, can have trouble getting live mounts after moving their tacks.

It may be 100 years before we see a jock do what Edgar did.

Glacken you may have forgotten but Edgar Prado rode at Suffolk and Rockingham parks for years before he went south. He went south to Maryland when one of his trainers moved down their with his stock.
The trainer was Leon (something spelling?) Buecsiwicz.(?)

jorge Vargas made the move the same time too.

I agree that Prado and JR are very good jockeys but being on live horses is important as well. When JR was winning races a little while back he was on alot of the Pletcher trained horses and Prado just had that luxury at Belmont and should have it at Saratoga as well, and when your winning races as Prado has been, other trainers want you on live horses as well, it the nature of the beast to want the leading meet rider on your horse.

It's not just about handicapping the horse anymore, you have got to take the Trainer/Barn and Jockey into consideration as well. Saratoga brings alot of history with it, trainers seem determined to run their best horses there, probably why it has been a graveyard for favorites.

Good Luck to everyone during the meet and lets all post some winners.

Why the respect? Because he is Jorge "Chop Chop" Chavez!
